The study and analysis of sediments of Qezrabad valley for knowing past morphodynamic processes

Abstract

Sediment and its characteristics is the most important witness and data for studying environment condition from point of climatic changes, tectonic condition view and also archaeology states. Therefore, sediment could be studied from point of genes, material, diameter, the root of trees, fauna, biota, and etc. in this research, we have studied granolometery of sediments of Qezrabad catchment, That is located in the west of Yazd city, to know dominant processes that have created and changed landforms in the Qezrabad catchment and also, past climatic changes. To do this, we sampled sex cases after field study. Then, we took samples to the laboratory of geomorphology, and put about 300 grams inter shaker set for any case for about15 minutes. The diameter of used meshes were 2000, 1000, 550, 355, 250, 125, and 63 mm in orderly. Then, using Gradistat software we calculated statistics parameters includes Mz, Md, SDI, SKI, and Ku. Results show that sediment has some geneses, so that fluvial, glacial, and tectonic processes are the most important factors in creation and changes of the sediments in quaternary orderly. Thus, the region has been affected by glaciers and neo-tectonic activity in quaternary. Also, statistics parameters of sediments show mega-floods in the period, because, there is high standard deviation in the some sediment cases.
